I found a similar pattern for admissions t...@James<br /><br />I found a similar pattern for admissions to elite US colleges<br /><br />http://medicalhypotheses.blogspot.co.uk/2009/05/do-elite-us-colleges-choose-personality.html<br /><br />My theory was that the objective of admitting a disproportionately high high number of women was achieved by emphasis on personality factors; when aspects such as conscientiousness and empathizing (as measured in the resume or interview) are given a lot of weight. <br /><br />Of course there is a lot of sheer dishonesty too - and when the racial and ethnic factors are taken into consideration it is clear that the attitude of college administrators is akin to Soviet bureaucrats, who handed out plum jobs to those they felt deserved them as a matter of priority - it was more important to be a peasant, and *not* to be a bourgeois, than to have demonstrated ability or achievement. <br /><br />e.g. My friend who grew up in communist Romania describes how medical school places were blocked for the children of doctors. <br /><br />But at least the communists were honest and explicit about what they were doing; US college admissions administrators are not - but maintain a lie of meritocracy.
